How to actually use this keyword tool
A keyword list without a strategy is just a Word doc full of words. Here's how to turn this database into a real plan for your cleaning company website. Four filters, four moves.
- 01
Start with "easy" difficulty
Drag the difficulty slider down to 10. You'll see the keywords most cleaning companies can rank for inside of three to six months. These are your quick wins. Build pages for these first.
- 02
Filter by category
Trying to figure out where to start? Pick a single category: Residential recurring, Move in/out, Commercial and janitorial, and only chase those keywords. One service, one focused service page, ten supporting keywords. That’s the play.
- 03
Sort by CPC, not volume
The volume column tells you how many people search for a term. The CPC column tells you what each click is worth. Sort by CPC descending and you'll see which keywords other cleaning companies are paying the most for on Google Ads, which means those leads are valuable. A high-CPC commercial keyword usually points at a contract worth thousands a year.
- 04
Map keywords to pages on your site
Each keyword belongs on a specific page. Recurring cleaning keywords go on the recurring page. Move-out keywords on the move-out page. Office and janitorial keywords on their own commercial pages. The biggest mistake cleaning companies make is trying to rank one homepage for fifty keywords. Build ten focused pages instead.
Why this list is different from every other cleaning keyword list
Most "cleaning service keyword" lists you'll find online are static blog posts that were probably built by an agency intern in 2020. They have no search volume. No difficulty scores. No way to filter or sort. They lump high-converting commercial keywords in with informational fluff and give you no way to tell the difference.
Every number here comes from Ahrefs Keywords Explorer (US, October 2026): real volume, difficulty, CPC, and traffic potential. We plan to refresh it every quarter. We stripped out the noise: competitor brand names, cleaning jobs, DIY vinegar recipes, franchise opportunities, and anything with fewer than 20 searches a month.
What's left is 232 keywords actual cleaning companies can use to figure out what to rank for, what to write about, and where to spend their marketing money. Residential and commercial. That's it. No fluff. No upsell.
